Loretta’s Story

I, Loretta, was 26 years old and three months pregnant.

I was Inuk (Inuit) and I was studying at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, 2000 kilometers from my little hometown in Labrador.I was writing a thesis on missing and murdered aboriginal women.

I was killed, the police say, on February 13^th, on the day of filing a petition of 25 000 signatures calling for a national inquiry, which preceded the day of the annual commemorative marches across the country.

(...) My body was found in New Brunswick thirteen days after my disappearance in a hockey bag covered by snow on the edge of the Trans-Canada Highway.
